“Strength Requirements for Student Seats and Their Vehicle Mounting in Dedicated School Buses" Standard Launch Event Held at JiuLong Seats

On October 30, the GB 24406—2024 “Strength Requirements for Student Seats and Their Vehicle Mounting in Dedicated School Buses” standard launch event was held at the Ganglong Automotive Industrial Park. Organized by the Bus Subcommittee of the National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee and hosted by Fujian Jiulong Automotive Seats Co., Ltd., the event was attended by nearly 30 industry experts, including Li Weijing, Chief Engineer of the China Automotive Standardization Research Institute; Yu Yali, Secretary General of the Bus Subcommittee of the National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee; Professor Shen Fulin from Chang’an University; and Zhao Dongxu, Assistant General Manager of China Highway Vehicle and Machinery Co., Ltd. Experts from bus manufacturing companies, component manufacturers, and testing organizations were also present.

At the beginning of the event, Mr. Chen Zhihuang, General Manager of Fujian Jiulong Automotive Seats Co., Ltd., warmly welcomed the attending experts and provided a detailed overview of the recent development of the group and the company. Mr. Chen expressed that as a company with over 20 years of dedication to the bus and component industry, Sanlong Investment, Shanghai Xinchengxiang, and their affiliates remain committed to promoting high-quality growth. He noted that while the company continues to make strides in product development and technological innovation, it aims to collaborate with industry peers to advance the standardization of bus components and support healthy industry development.

As a dedicated public transport vehicle for students, school buses’ safety directly affects the well-being of this vulnerable group. In June 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China issued the compulsory national standard GB 24406-2024, “Strength Requirements for Student Seats and Their Vehicle Mounting in Dedicated School Buses.” This standard, led by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., was developed with contributions from Fujian Jiulong Automotive Seats Co., Ltd. and more than ten other domestic organizations and will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

During the event, Mr. Lou Lei from the China Automotive Research and Testing Center, and one of the standard's contributors, provided a comprehensive explanation of the standard. He addressed the background, scope, and key provisions of the compulsory national standard, and offered insights into the requirements to consider during manufacturing and product testing, backed by practical examples.

Experts attending the meeting engaged in discussions and exchanges

Following this, attendees engaged in a lively discussion on technical issues related to school bus seats. Zhang Yongchun from China Merchants Inspection Vehicle Technology Research Institute emphasized that the GB 24406-2024 standard represents a critical step in enhancing passive safety in school buses, improving key technical benchmarks, and refining testing methodologies. He expressed confidence that with the industry’s joint efforts, the GB 24406-2024 standard would be effectively implemented, contributing to the ongoing improvement of school bus seat safety performance.

In addition, the meeting provided constructive suggestions and advice on several standards related to this one and offered opportunities to exchange views on issues of common interest to companies.

After the event, the experts visited several component manufacturing plants under Sanlong Investment, including Fujian Pat, Zhangzhou Changlong, Zhangzhou Xinmeida, and Jiulong Seats. The experts commended the companies for their achievements in bus interiors, vehicle frames and exterior parts, automotive wiring harnesses, and bus seat development, production, and technical processes. Looking ahead, Sanlong Investment and its affiliates will continue to enhance their development capabilities, advance along the path of high-quality growth, and contribute to a brighter future for the industry.
